Wage Theft is when an employer does not pay you what you are owed for your work.
Examples of wage theft:
1. Paying less than the minimum wage.
The minimum wage in Hawai'i is currently $9.25/hour with some exceptions for tipped workers.
2. Avoiding payment of overtime.
Overtime pay is 1.5 times your hourly wage for every hour you work over 40 in a week.
3. Making you work "off the clock."
4. Making illegal deductions from paychecks.
5. Stealing tips.
6. Not paying for all hours worked.
7. Not paying a worker at all.
8. Issuing a paycheck that bounces.
9. Failing to issue a final check.
10. Misclassifying workers as independent contractors.
