FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial Assistance

The Department of Human Services, State of Hawai'i, provides financial assistance to  the following populations:
  • Disabled individuals or married couples
  • Single or married elderly (over 65 years old), and
  • Needy families.

Please visit the Department of Human Services’ website for more information about each program, the application, and important COVID-19 updates. 

​A Note for First Time Applicants
  • You can apply for food stamps and financial assistance with the same application. The best way to submit a financial assistance application is on the website here.
  • Or, you can mail, fax, or drop off the application at your nearest processing center.
  • In-person services are available at offices 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M., Monday-Friday.
  • Call 1-888-764-7586 for assistance completing the application. Free interpreters are provided.
  • You will receive notices via mail, so please list a secure mailing address and check on a regular basis. 

​​A Note for Recipients 
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, application interviews or six-month reviews will be conducted over the phone.  In-person interviews will be used in limited situations.
  • ​The work, training, or education requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents have been temporarily waived.

Social Security Administration (SSA)

  • If you are disabled or elderly, you may be eligible for disability benefits from SSA. Please refer to our resources for more information about various programs, including Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI.)
  • SSA continues to provide its services via telephone, mail, and online. You may be able to find your answer, apply for disability benefits, or get help on SSA.GOV. To call SSA, first look up the local field office here. Otherwise, you can call the national hotline at 1-800-772-1213.
  • SSA offices are open for walk-ins.
  • Extensions and Good Cause Policy: SSA may extend deadlines or provide extensions for any deadline, including appealing a denial or termination of benefits. Call for assistance.
