Staff Attorney – Family Unit, Honolulu Office
Position Description: The Staff Attorney will work with our Family Law team in our Honolulu office to provide family law legal services. Legal services include but are not limited to assistance with client representation in family law matters including, divorce, paternity, child welfare (Guardian ad litem), domestic violence cases, restraining orders, adoptions and guardianships. Staff Attorneys also participate in community engagement and partnership building, development of self-help materials, outreach and education, statewide initiatives, and in and day–to-day oversight of non-attorney staff. Staff attorneys may also assist in supervising law students practicing under Hawaii Supreme Court Rule 7.

Requirements:
- Member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Hawaii are preferred. Applications from highly qualified individuals licensed to practice in another state and eligible to practice in Hawaii under Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct rule 1.16 will be considered.
- Demonstrable commitment to social justice and experience working with abuse survivors, disabled or and/or low-income population strongly preferred.
- Family Law experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in any capacity in the family court system or child welfare system a plus.
- Desire to develop litigation skills or litigation experience required.
- Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with diverse team of co-workers.
- Organizational skills to manage a busy practice, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.
- Must demonstrate humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency, a must.
- Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), strongly preferred.
- Must have valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for home visits, outreach, trainings, to various parts of ‘Oahu, and to Family Court, Circuit Court, and other locations
