Outreach Specialist: Homeless Program, Oahu
Full-Time Outreach Specialist to work with our Community Engagement Team to conduct intake, provide legal assistance & conduct legal education for individuals experiencing homelessness and other homeless service providers. Legal subject matter includes public assistance benefits (social security, general assistance and SNAP/food stamps), obtaining vital documents, housing law, family law & consumer protection. The Outreach Specialist is based out of the Honolulu Legal Aid Office, but many services are delivered at outreach sites across Oahu. Individuals who have experience homelessness or housing insecurity are encouraged to apply.
All candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:
Compensation: $17.83 to 22.35 per hour commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefit package includes health and dental insurance, 401K plan, long term disability and long term care insurance, life insurance, paid state holidays and generous paid vacation and sick leave.

- Associates degree or equivalent experience.
- If not already knowledgeable in the area of law, ability and willingness to learn.
- Strong oral communication skills and proficient writing skills.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office and proficiency with a computer.
- Culturally sensitive, compassionate, and able to work well with diverse, low-income populations.
- Demonstrable commitment to social justice or experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population, or issues affecting low-income populations strongly preferred.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness is helpful but not required.
- Able to perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency.
- Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus, but not required.
- Access to an automobile or other means of reliable transportation on a daily basis is required.
