Intake Paralegal – Honolulu Part-Time

The Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi is Hawaiʻi’s oldest and largest non-profit public interest law firm with offices statewide. Through its dedicated staff, Legal Aid helps ensure justice and fairness for all by providing civil legal aid to the most vulnerable in our society.

We are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) intake paralegal to assist clients through Legal Aid's centralized hotline on online intake system which involves screening applicants for eligibility, completing online applications, providing legal information and advice under the supervision of attorneys, and providing referrals.  The schedule is somewhat flexible, but applicants must be available at least 20 hours per week during regular business hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
 
Requirements:
  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or equivalent experience required;
  • Client or customer service experience preferred;
  • Some legal experience is preferred, but training will be provided;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse low-income and disadvantaged populations required;
  • Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner, required;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and strong computer skills required.
  • Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency, a must.
 
Compensation $20.07/hour - $25.15/hour commensurate with experience.

This position is currently a hybrid of remote and in-office work.  Hybrid working condition is subject to change.
