Our Hotline Advocates first screen applicants for eligibility for our services. The intake advocate then makes sure that the legal problem falls within Legal Aid’s priorities and is not prohibited by Legal Services Corporation (LSC) rules.
Once the applicant passes the eligibility requirements, the caller is
then interviewed about their legal problem. The intake advocate then
gives the caller counsel and advice i.e. telling the caller about their
legal rights and what their legal options are. All of this information
is then officially recorded in a docket (electronic file).
